Writing about this article

I totally agree! I am rubbish at working out just after work, and end up yawning away.

I’ve been on a mission recently on the fitness front, with a 6 week programme devised just for me by our rugby club physio, who’s also a personal trainer. It’s quite hardcore, and I’m having to get up at 6am for 7am gym sessions twice a week to fit it in with the rest of my life. But, I’m a B2B and with less than 5 months to The Big Day, I can’t let it slip.

Looks like those early morning sessions are the way forward, if this article is to be believed…

Yay! Thanks to a tech-friendly bod, Olney RFC now has its own YouTube channel and the first vid up there is the highlights from last year’s Olney Rugby 7s tournament.  What a cracking day that was.

Here it is:

I love it, and I hate it… February 17, 2009

Ever get the feeling that something is great, because it’s so bad?

I am an avid watcher of ‘MasterShout’ (AKA Master Chef) whenever I have evenings in; and I feel like this towards this brilliant but cringe-worthy programme.  I love it, and hate it at the same time.

Greg and Jon’s attempt to out-do each other on piling as much food as possible on to their fork is at once gross but highly entertaining.  Their proclamations that the show will “CHANGE THEIR LIFE” and that “COOKING DOESN’T GET TOUGHER THAN THIS” are ridiculous and sublimely brilliant.  Greg’s near-orgasm at “EXCEPTIONAL” sugary puddings and Jon’s puppy-dog eyes at good looking women who cook crazy combinations are almost too much to bear.

Almost.  But not enough to stop me watching.

It’s not so blurry for The Boy. He just hates it.  Until I bring him a lovely PLATE OF FOOD for his dinner!!

Rugby and Romance this weekend February 13, 2009

The Boy isn’t really a romantic, so I know not to get hung up on V Day (although in our first year of dating he cooked me a three course meal on 14 Feb – he hasn’t since).  Anyhoo, we thought we’d make a bit of an effort tomorrow night, without being frivolous or overly slushy.  Meals out on V Day never cut it with me (all the freaks come out for their one romantic night of the year. Isn’t spontaneous romance better?) – so we’re staying in.

AM – jobs time, I am setting seeds for veg in the greenhouse, The Boy will no doubt be doing car related stuff.

PM – I’m getting a hair cut then the plan is to get prep for dinner done and watch the England rugby game with a nice bottle of fizz which my Sis gave us at Chrimbles. After rugger, time to cook (warily, having necked a bottle already).

We are having:

Starter: Salt and pepper king prawns with home made chilli and tomato bread

Main: Duck breast with port and cherry sauce, mash and red cabbage

Dessert: chocolate pot with home made hazlenut brittle.

If I’m sober enough, I might take a pic of the food so you can see the yumster grub. Being realistic though, I’ll probably be a bit sozzled and will wolf it down…

All clear on the nose blow February 11, 2009

Today I blew my nose for the first time since my operation.  Weirdly, I was really conscious of it, as I’ve been banned from blowing since Monday 5 Jan, the day of the operation.

I went for a follow up post-op with the nose man last Thursday (trudging in the snow – the waiting room was empty and I was seen early; bliss!) – he was really pleased with the result and practically leapt off his chair with glee when I said my sense of smell was now amazing too.  I feel he hadn’t had the chance of much patient interaction that day.

Anyhoo, 2 weeks ahead of expected schedule, my nose got the all clear and I am ok to play rugby again (whooooop!) and blow the aforesaid nostrils.  Very exciting on all fronts non?

So the nose blow went fine, anyway.

Have yet to try rugby again cos the snow has scuppered training and games. Hoping we’ll play on Sunday and doubly hoping I don’t crack and break my nose in my first tackle!

To anyone who’s thinking of having septoplasty done – DO IT.  It’s one of the best things I’ve done in a long time and the benefits have been amazing.

Hair dye disaster: a near miss February 9, 2009

Having discovered my first long grey hair recently (i’ve had a cruella grey streak in my fringe for ages, rather like the woman off The Clothes Show) – I decided to start dying.  The last time I dyed my hair was probably in 1997 when I did a wash in-wash out colour which faded overnight, no drama and no long-term impact.

This time round I plumped for a well known brand advertised by Davina (who talks to her Ma in the advert, but in real life, she hates her Mum! Weird!) – anyhoo, I decided to do the recommended allergy test, just to be sure.

Was very relieved I did. Applied a small amount behind my ear as suggested and left it. Later that night in bed, I woke up with my eyes streaming and my throat feeling like cat hair had been shoved down it.  Usually I get these tickly throat and streamy eyes symptoms when there’s a cat in the room. So I woke up The Boy and asked him, natch, if a stray cat could have got into the house and under the bed.

Naturally, he proclaimed that I was being a dufus and went back to sleep. I washed behind my ears and gave my eyes a rinse and was ok for the rest of the night.  All very strange – I would have expected an allergic reaction to cause itching and redness on the spot I put the potion on, but that was unmarked and normal.

Now, I still have to dye my hair if I’m to be a beaut B2B this summer – so my search for a hair dye that likes me must go on.  Luckily, one of the rellys is a hairdresser so I’ll ask their opinion…I’ve just spotted this article where a teen had problems much more severe than me, but with the same colour of the same brand! Gah!! Scary!
