CK’s Random Ruminations

the inner mumblings of a busy girl

Head and shoulders above the rest October 22, 2009

Been meaning to blog about my cousin’s new website for ages…it is soooo pretty!

Julie-ann is an amazing talent and you may find her familiar from her star turn on Project Catwalk – her first design was incredible, right down to the pot of jam – love it! I’ve no idea how people get an eye for fashion – I like all girls digest my fair share of tat women’s glossy mags with outfits emblazoned throughout, but I still barely manage to get matching socks on me or steer far from my regulation jeans/top/hoody or cardy option.  Gah!  My resolution on turning 30 to wear more accessories has waned too, particularly on days where I’m gymming before work – I’m lucky if I remember to pack up my work clothes let alone embellishments.

Anyhoo, enough of my fashion woes – Julie-ann has moved away from designing clothes to  turning her hand to millinery and I think has found her perfect niche  – it’s fab to have someone so creative related to you and at every family wedding there’s a new design on display.  She is one clever gal – and yup, she’s related to me! :-)

Trevor the Lovebus’ amazing transformation August 18, 2009

So, you might recall the design competition we ran for the camper van, whereby we asked people to submit their own ideas of how we should pimp our ride… Here’s how Trevor used to be:
RIMG0190

Well after immediately discounting many entries (er, Mr Blobby? No) and deliberating over the others, Paul, Dean and Mary won the competition and we went with a combination of all three designs to transform Trevor – from beat up bland van, to surf-tastic country paradise love bus!!

And here’s the pictures to prove it:

Kind of an English Country Garden…

Congrats to the winners, each of whom will be getting a personal visit from Trevor and the chance to sup tea and eat cake in the luxurious interior:

Campervan colouring contest – the winner(s)! April 14, 2009

OK, the moment you’ve all been waiting for has arrived!!

We had a good number of entries in and after a lot of deliberating and cogitating over cups of tea, we have made the decision to go with not one, but TWO designs!

Yes readers, not only is painting a campervan yourself quite mental in itself, we are going a step further by having a different design on each side of the van.

The two we are going with represented two things we love – gardening, and surfing – so congratulations to Dean first off for his sea and surf combo:

Dean design

And the other side, garden related, actually goes to two people who came up with similar ideas: Monkey, firstly (remember those giant bees?):

And Mary’s garden wonderland:

Well done to everyone who entered, we loved looking through your handiwork (eerrr, but Mr Blobby was never gonna win!) – a special mention goes to Helen who submitted three strong contenders, Jessica our youngest entrant and also Susan Condon who did a great hippy theme.

Congrats then, go to Dean, Monkey and Mary all of whom will get a home visit from the pimped-up Trevor when it’s painted. And when it moves again. What horror will strike into the face of their neighbours when they see the camper rocking up??! Ha!

Anyhoo gang, we’ll be posting up regular pics of the new look Trevor for your delight, so watch this space (also I have the proviso that if it looks shite, we’re paying to have a re-spray).

Two more lovely ones here, both drawing on a garden type theme.  Mary’s using a ’secret’ garden design with an ingenious blackboard paint section at the back where we can scribble stuff on.  Potential for lewd graffiti? Quite high; but I like it!!

And here’s the front and back of Mary’s design, with that all-important blackboard bit:

The other entry is from Monkey Morris, who’s developed a simpler but equally effective design, which includes the rather threatening giant-bees:

Nice work from you both!

Only two days left so remember, if you haven’t done so already, to get your entries in to : tartuptrev@live.co.uk

Colourblocking the camper van March 23, 2009

The latest in are reflecting the current colourblocking trend that’s all over the catwalk. Here’s the autumnal efforts of Jessica, aged three-and-a-half:

And on the same trend, but a different scheme, here’s Dave’s:

And the latest great news is that, the camper van now has passed its MOT! Trevor hasn’t been driven since 2001, so this is a real achievement – well done Boy!!

Camper van contest is underway! March 5, 2009

Being D-I-Y type people, we are also doing our honeymoon ourselves – which means, we’re going in a camper van round the South Coast, hopefully! I say hopefully, as The Boy’s been resurrecting an old Bedford camper van which hasn’t been driven in about 5 years. Nothing like a small challenge, eh!

Anyhoo, the time has come to do up the exterior of our beloved van (which is very very near roadworthiness, apparently…) – so we’ve launched the Tart Up Trevor competition.

We’re asking people to come up with a design for our van – the winner gets a home visit from Trevor, with the new design in place, and tea and cake in the seating area of this luxurious classic vehicle. Ahem.

Entries in by 10 April please – you can submit them via email to tartuptrev@live.co.uk.  Here’s the van in all it’s glory, ready for your artistic endeavours!

And our first entry is in – see what you think of this, from Scotty – very bold, slightly retro…but I’m not sure The Boy can manage that hairstyle?!
